Consider the Nikon ED82, field use. @ just under 1K you'll like the optics and it's rugged. The Diascope 85PL by Carl Zeiss is out of my league at 3K!

Leaupold Gold Ring 12-60x60 for around $1000 is a great scope for the price...most cheaper scopes I've seen are about worthless in the field.

I have a friend with a Swarovski spotting scope. It's the nicest scope I've put my eye through.
Swarovski and Zeiss are the tops. I have the gold ring Leupold and consider it adequate.
Leupold Sequoia or Wind River for the 300-500 range.

Swarovski and Zeiss are the tops. I have the gold ring Leupold and consider it adequate.
