Q:
LaCrosse 18" rubber boots. Burly or AlphaBurly? Seems to be a $20 difference for a 2pound weight difference. I've got a Cabelas gift card, so that's where I'll buy. Noticed Cabelas has its own line for about $20 less. Any experience?

I buy alot of cabelas brand stuff. Alot of it is great stuff for a good price. Same with bass pro. Their stuff is made by the good guys just branded for them. I would say try them on and see which ones you like better.
I buy the AlphaBurly, buy 2 one insulated and one non.
Depends on the temp where youre hunting. Im in the South and the uninsulated model works best for me. I would stick to the Lacrosse Brand too.
Absolutely love the Cabelas brand boots. Had a pair for 6 years that I wore the heck out of and just the past year had to replace them. For rubber boots that is phenomenal. Definitely go withe the Duratrax model, has a better neoprene liner.
Before you go spending any more money at Cabelas, perhaps you should check out what they are doing to hunting opportunities. See the heated debates in the Great Falls Tribune (Montana). I was a faithful customer for years but I'm sorry, no matter what the quality or price, I cannot spend my money on hunting and fishing equipment with a business that is making a business out of keeping me from hunting and fishing. As far as I know, Bass Pro hasn't gotten into this game yet.
If it is not Cabela's, it will be some other entity that will buy up that land. no matter who buys it, unless it is the state, you and I will not have access to it.
Every business out there is motivated to separate you from your cash. Cabela's is no different. I am glad you brought this to our attention.
go with muck boots they are great kinda pricey though
The Alpha's are rubber coated neoprene. I sometimes switch from insulated boots for sitting stands on cold mornings to lighter boots for still-hunting. The weight difference is noticeable. Neoprene also insulates.
Thanks for all the posts. I tried on boots for about two hours. My planned use is wading through shallow swamp in the Poconos of Eastern PA for Black Bear.
I felt the materials, workmanship, and finish of the LaCrosse AlphaBurly were superior, but the sizing was all over the place: read, MADE IN CHINA. I usually take an 11M. One pair of 13s was too big, and another was too small, as were the 11s and 12s. Also, when I walked, the heal and soft ankle caused my feet to snap down. I really like the AlphLight, but the uncoated 3.5 Neoprene upper seemed like it would tear on rough terrain.
Cabela's had a sale on their ComfortTracs, but I did not like anything about them. I wound up buying their DuraTrax, which have a sole that allowed my foot to roll through a stride. I spent an hour in them on Saturday morning, with fleece socks. Yuck! Sweaty and uncomfortable. I will try other sock combinations; any suggestions?
I keep several lifetime wool blend socks from bass pro (can be returned for new pair if they wear out) as well as wool blend socks. My feet sweat so I carry a spare on long hikes or if I'll be on stnd all day. I also use anti persperant on the bottoms of me feet, seems to help a lil.
I bought a pair of AlphaBurlysport which feel awesome probably the most comfortable rubber boot i've ever worn, and I have walked miles in them! That being said I walked through some briers the other day hunting and now I have a small hole which I found while crossing a shallow creek right after getting out of the briers.
This sucks because I do love these boots, they just need to be a little more Burly on the uppers.
I bought a pair of Lacrosse AlphaBurley 1500 gram thinsulate a a co-op store in Selma, Alabama. Down there a knee high rubber boot is a must. I didn't think that I would wear them much here in the mountains of WV but I find myself wearing them quite often especially when the snow gets deep. I was suprised at how well I could walk in them even though they had that much thinsulate in them.
