I like to use many variations of the grunt all around and during the rut. The key is to grunt when the buck is not likely to be able to pick you out, like when he's at a distance or has an obstructed view. There's no better way to get busted than to blow a grunt call in a buck's face. I use the buckroar, and it's been most useful in bringing back bucks that have turned to walk away. Nothing annoys them and gets them fired up more than hearing a grunt that they just turned their back to. Good luck!
I use the buck roar through out the fall and have blind called some nice bucks using this call. I start with light / tending grunts brr brr brrrr every 20-30 mins, then if no action I'll blow a roar once every hour maybe.
the buck roar i have had plenty of sucess with i once shot a doe and a buck had been following her he started to run away but when i grunted he did a 180 and broadsided to me i guess he was just trieing to see what made the noise but long enough for me to shove a .243 bullet in his neck
I have the buck roar. It has the versatilty to make regular grunts, roars, and it has a snort/wheeze call attached. I played around with it earlier this season and snort/wheezed in a 1.5 year old buck that was not legal...it seems like a pretty good call.
