I don't know about other states, but in PA, you can legally sell a shotgun or rifle to anyone you want. You do not have to go to an FFL to transfer the firearm. As a private citizen, a long-gun is considered your personal property, and you can sell it to a private individual.

A pistol is a different story. You must go to an FFL to transfer the pistol to the buyer to be legal. I have done this twice with a pistol.

More MSNBC crap I think. A .50 can take down a helicopter, huh? Maybe this reporter should go to Afghanistan. A ROCK can take down a helicopter too!

If Law Enforcement Agency's wish to catch felons with firearms, this news agency just proved how easy it would be. However, it is more convenient to use this loophole as a crutch to ban all firearms. If a fraction of the manpower used to take guns out of a citizens hands was used to take them out of criminals hands, criminal would not readily buy guns over the internet.

i was always under the influence that as long as it is a private sale and it was a long gun, it was legal with out a back ground check. just more journalism bull sh*t to restrict our rights even more. wonder what they will do if the sh*t hits the fan and there areno armed citizens for them to run to for protection.

If these guns have serial numbers and have been registered to someone they can still be traced. I would have second thoughts about selling a gun I registered to someone I do not know. If a crime is committed with that weapon my name will be the first to come up! If these are unregistered , illeagal weapons then something needs to be done to stop they're sale. All my guns are registered and I'm very careful who I sell or trade with!

I hear people talking of the ignorance of a .50 taking out a helicopter, but I can swallow that. However "with a range of 5 miles"? Are you kidding me?

It does have a range of 5 miles, just like a .22 has a range of 1 mile. You aren't going to be able to hit whatever you are aiming at, but that is it's range.

Now, EFFECTIVE range on target, that is a different story. If you believe you can hit a target out to 5 miles, I have some ocean front property in Wyoming to sell you.
