Q:
Fella running for circuit judge wife walked up the driveway followed by her husband with a petition to be added to the ballot. I walked out of the shop with my Savage stainless steel muzzleloader barrel in hand wiping the cleaning and lubricant residue off with a towel. Was this the correct way to meet a person involved running in politics?

If it was just the barrel, they probably wouldn't even know what it was or what you were doing. If you had the rifle then I would think that may be a little awkward. Then again if you knew the man it might not come as a surprise. A fellow co-worker of mine is on the city council and I doubt it would surprise him at all if I were to do something similar.
How big did his eyes get?
It could be interpreted as a friendly gesture or aggravated assault, depending on the prosecutor.
i doubt it would be a problem. most don't even know what a barrel is if they see it.
That is the perfect way to meet your daughters boyfriend. Not sure about a circuit judge candidate.
Sounds like a way to figure out if the guy is worth voting for...a gun enthusiast would certainly take notice and comment on a fine looking firearm.
Lot of questions got answered right away.
I think its fantastic! I dont think I would trust him if he didnt know what it was.
Sounds like the perfect way to find out where they stand on firearm and hunting issues and the way to get the conversation started.
My thought is that a good politician (don't laugh) would have asked what it was (if he/she didn't know) and what you were doing and if they were interrupting your activity and time. Then -here's the best part- really LISTENED to your answer to learn, without thinking of their next thing to say about themselves....... but again, that's not why they were there....just wishful thinkin'. (so yes, absolutely fine way to greet them)
But you didn't tell us what the reaction was. That's what would have made it right or wrong.
What I have laying out, or show to people, depends on how they know me. I don't do the 'gun nut poser' for impressing strangers.
Last Saturday afternoon, Alex said someone was here to see me. So I came strolling out of the shop with my Savage Muzzleloader barrel in hand minus stock and breech plug wiping the solvents and lubrications off. Neither one blinked an eye, come to find out their Son headed off to east Arkansas for a hunt so this must have been the norm for them. I asked what he thought about the 2nd Amendment and he believes a person must be able to protect themselves, fare enough & good answer. We also discussed the future of NW Arkansas and the concerns we both have.
Will I vote for him? Probably will, got a great since of humor and look forward in working with him and the group!
