Q:
I couldn't believe that a selfish gun owner made this comment on another website; "I don't own any "assault weapons", and don't think they, or large clips/magazines, are really necessary for hunting or target shooting." This reminds me of the writing by Pastor Martin Niemoller called "I Didn't Speak Out". "First the Nazis came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then the Nazis came for the Catholics and I did not speak out because I was not a Catholic. Then the Nazis came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then the Nazis came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. Here it is applying to Guns; The Politicians came after the automatic firearms and I didn't speak out because I didn't own any Automatics. The Politicians want to ban the large capacity clips and magazines and I didn't speak out because I didn't own any large capacity magazines or clips. The Politicians want to ban semi automatic firearms and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t own any of those semi automatics. The politicians want to ban handguns and I didn’t speak out because I don’t own any handguns. The politicians want to ban hunting guns now you’re very upset because you own hunting guns. You now want to join the NRA, and donate money, but now it’s too late. The NRA is now bankrupt with no money to fight with and closing up forever. Now Do you Understand?

The poem was written by Martin Niemoller during the year 1939 inside Berlin, Germany.
I also want to add this, written by Ann Rand;
"The smallest minority on earth is the individual.
Those who deny individual rights cannot
claim to be defenders of minorities."

Gary,
The argument you're putting forth is called the "slippery slope" or "allowing the elephant to get his foot in the door".
Here's the problem, it's a fallacy. And if we truly want to stop the worthless banning of the AR/AK platform rifles we must educate the public that the civilian versions we commonly buy and use are not the military version.
The reason your argument doesn't work is because in 1934 legislation was enacted restricting access to certain types of firearms and in the ensuing 80 years they didn't come after our firearms. Similarly, an assault weapon ban was enacted in 1994 and allowed to expire 10 years later, and aginn they didn't come after our firearms.. So that's starting nearly 80 years ago, either the "gun grabbers" have a REALLY long term plan or the Patience of Job.

Hoski, This post has nothing to do with the "slippery slope or allowing elephants to get their foot in the door". The post is about selfish sportsmen who are on different websites, who don't care if a firearm or a high capacity clip is outlawed, because they don't selfishly own any. This is just like those who didn't speak up during the days of Nazis Germany. They to were selfish, and only cared about their own neck.

Hoski, You also wave the time clock around. Full auto regulations was in 1934. Semi autos and large clips is 2013. You say that a big time frame. Don't you care about gun freedom for our grandchildren or great grandchildren?

Finally!
GIVE 'EM NUTHIN' "!

Ignoring what's going on in the name of "It won't affect/bother me!" just gives the anti's another, albeit small, victory they can build on.

In 1935 a kid could have a barlow knife in his pocket in school. In 1935 if a kid pointed his finger at a friend and said "pow" he wouldn't be expelled from school. Sure Hoski, there is no slippery slope. No one like Chuck Schumer has based his political career on limiting individuals freedom "for the children". I can't believe the regulations that have been passed in my lifetime that reduce freedom. We are constantly under attack, Americans did not put up with this kind of crap in the past. I don't know why we do now.

Hoski, I never made any judgement on you. 1stBubba does that for me. LOL, I'm only joking.
I corrected you in my one post, about you saying my post was talking about the slippery slope and elephant to get his foot in the door. The other post I asked you question, about caring for gun owners in the future, that you failed to answer..

Gary Devine,
Across the plethora of posts, comment, and backlash/blowback threads covering this issue I've counted maybe 2 or 3 people who've made remarks in support of the proposed AWB...hardly what I'd consider a divide and conquer strategy.
Here's where some fail to understand the situation in it's entirety. You, and many others seem to be under the impression that by restricting access to certain types of firearms that it equates to total denial of firearm rights...hence my comparison to the 1934/1994 legislation, neither of which denied our rights to firearms. The bottom line is we as citizens are not being denied firearm rights per se.
This is why in my opinion, we waste time and effort talking about preservation of the rights of future generations to easy access to whatever type of firearm we may desire.
