Clay I gave your post some more thought. Unfortunately fear sells. As an example look back at all the classic tales of Horror. Dracula followed the discover that Syph@lis was a blood born disease. Frankenstein was after it was discovered muscles could be contracted with electricity. Godzilla started out as an Iguana in the Bikini Atoll. Why shouldn't Politician's use fear as a tried and true method. It worked for Hitler.

Republican politicians make a living using fear as a motivator. The build up to the Iraq war being a fine example.

Before the Iraq war, there was legitimate reason to fear that Saddam Hussein had nuclear capability, and the shock of 9/11 woke us up to the possibility of their use against us. We KNEW he had nerve gas and had actually used it in warfare.
It may take another attack on U.S. soil to wake us up to the perils of North Korea and Iran.
