Q:
Petzal's last post got me thinking. If you had to go into a firefight against an unknown number of assailants, which weapon from your personal arsenal would you use? And then, which weapon would you prefer to use, whether you currently own it or not?

An old saying is that if you know you are going to a fight don't take a hand gun, take a long gun... or something like that.
I would take my Glock 23 and have my 19 has my secondary weapon as well as extra mags for each. I am trained with these weapons for my job so they would be my choice for close quarters combat. For longer range I would use my Remington 7600 243 and I would choose this over my 270 because I have 2 mags for this one.
The only thing I might change for a weapon I don't own is a rifle with higher capacity mags but it would still have to be highly accurate I would NOT trade accuracy for more rounds.
Model 12 Winchester
M1-A.
M-2 Browning MG.
remington 1100 tactical 12 ga
I don't own one but if it's inside a building AA-12 shotgun with drum mags. If it's long range, then probably a dm m-14.
Mossburg 500 with the short slug barrel.
Forgot to add, I have one. Sorry.
Smart money would never go into a firefight with an unknown number of assailants. Get the G-2 then go!
WA Mtnhunter-
G-2 and multiply by Two! Remember?
22 rifle, and a trunk of ammo.
Where is a Remington 870 Police shotgun (and plenty of 00 Buck) when you need it?
I keep a Kimber .45ACP on "stand-by", but readily acknowledge the 12 gauge shotgun is a better choice for room-to-room problems.
I agree with WAM: given multiple opponents, I'd drop out a window, if possible, and wait for the assailants to emerge or withdraw and observe (vehicle, license plate number, description of assailants, etc.) to make a report.
this was one rule i have to disagree with. i'm with firehawk, i'll take the G23 everyday, quick point, quick sight picture, quick shooting. i pack mine everyday and occasionally fear this scenario but have never faced it. i depend in the glock. also i prefer a pistol because of this type particularly for the magazine capacity and a pistol overall because you can use both eyes and don't have to bring it to your face, eliminating your view of much of your surroundings. p.s. i hope none of us ever has to make this decision.
Many a routine patrol quickly became an aw$h** because of poor order of battle estimates! You either humped your butt off with way too much ordnance and found jack, or went light and ran into the end of days!
I would use my shotgun with buckshot on cylinder bore. If I could use anything, it would be a mini-gun.
GPS coordinates for an air strike. But if I have to go with what I got, I'll take the 870 with 00buck and the Glock 23. I wouldn't mind having the S&W .357 as my backup handgun. That's all in close--if I've got the high ground, I want my Savage .308 model 10. Of course this assumes the hypothetical that you have to go in. I'd usually walk away from bad odds, but as John Wayne once said, "sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."
Got to have 24vdc with lots of current to run that minigun!
remington 870 with 00 buck shot, and a few grenades.
Beretta 391 AL 20 gauge. I would want a 12 gauge with buck shot.
ive always wanted to sneak attack with a bow and arrow but i think if it really came down to it my choice would be semi auto 12 gauge with buck shot

M4 with the M203 (combined firepower)
M240B or a SAW (suppressive fire and lots of rounds)
Savage 110 .30-06
Mossberg 500 Tactical 12 ga. 00 Buck and rifled slug (alternating rounds) 1 Buckshot followed by a slug)
M-1
M-14A1
Any of these would be my choice
86Ram A + 1 for you sir..I have the same thoughts but I like to add if I could also bring "RPG" , AK-47, or even a Mortar for a fire fight!!!
I would take my mini 14 223 ruger ranch rifle into a fight as long as it had a 35 shot clip. if i could choose any weapon i would like a AA-12.

Them that knows, goes with what they knows.
I believe the line came from the movie 'Jackie Brown', that Sam Jackson's character said: "When you absolutely gotta' kill every mother..... in the room, AK-47".
or maybe a 30mm cannon.
A Smith& Wesson 645, .45 ACP and extra magazines, because that is beside my bed. I think that an M-60 in a good defensive position would be comforting also. There are better choices, but these I have spent the most time with. When you say "assailants" I take it to mean they are coming to me. Bad idea if I know they are coming. I would just prefer to just "Slink out the back Jack"....
AR15 for me. I can start accurate shooting at 500 yards or more and I can accurately place as many rounds as I have. Lots of firepower for a little bit of weight.
I would also invest in a good pair of running shoes, body armor, and a panic room.
As a historian, I was taught to avoid hypothetical questions like the plague. I have found that was good advice.
But I'll indulge myself for a moment. My 30-06 Remington slide action Model 760 backed up with Browning Auto shotgun loaded up with 00 Buckshot.
Range and terrain? From what I have: Mossberg 500 slug barrel, to what I want: MP5-K.
My Ithace Model 37 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 Buckshot.
But I would prefer to us a Thompson submachinegun with a rotary drum magazine.
My bushmaster AR15 with a red dot scope with plenty of extra mags. my remmington 1100 shotgun with buckshot. and my Smith and wesson .44 mag with speed loaders as a last resort.
With what I have, I would go with my 1903a1 with my Kimber Ultra for backup. Going with what I would prefer.... I say a 3 gun combo: H&K G-3 with a 30 round mag, My old Mossberg 500 government model with a mixed load of slug and shot, and a full sized Charles Daley or Wilson Combat 1911. That way I have all ranges and spreads covered.
I would use my Remington 870.
I would take my partner with our S&W 4566 TSW .45's and our 870's with our duty belts full of ammo.
For short range the first thing I would grab is the Remington 870 with 20-inch rifle sighted barrel, IC choke, three-round magizine extension, with OO Buck. For longer ranges my choice is the M1 Garand loaded with 180 grain Nosler BTs.
