Q:
I was talking to a local dectective today who happens to be a very attractive lady. I noticed she had a Glock. Knowing that most local cops shoot .40 S & W I asked if hers was that caliber. Nope she says and showed me her Model 30 in .45 ACP. The package fits me better she said. I was impressed. What do your local policemen and women prefer?

CT state police carry Sig 229 in .40 s&w. A few of the local police departments use the Sig 229 in .357 sig.
My CHP friends carry a .40
Yes, sounds to me like you were noticing other apparel items at least as much as the gun. More details please. Have some pity and feed the imagination of a lonely old geezer.
Most cops in my area carry G22's in .40 s&w. A few carry Kimber 1911 45's. And state police carry S&W M&P .40's
About 9:1 Glocks in 40 S&W.
In my town SIG .45 acp.

Both my daughters are LEO's.
One carries M&P .45ACP, the other carries an H&K .40.
The .45 is personal choice.
The .40 is a "must carry" department issue. (she's a Fed)
Both are surprisinly proficient with their weapons.
Strangely, the .45 is "cross-dominant". Right hand, left eye.
On the range, she looks like she's having spasms, but normally shoots in the top 5 when qualifying. There is a large military base nearby and quite a few of the local LEO's "are" ex-military, and she STILL out shoots "most" of them. She was never military.
I'm very proud of both of them.

Our local deticive (family friend) carrys a Remington 1911 in .45 as well. It's brand new, he's only had it a week or so. Another local cop carrys Sig .45.
Bubba: My daughter hopes to attend law school but if that does not work out LEO is her intention. Certainly you should be very very proud of your daughters and their accomplishments.
I carried many different firearms over my 35 year career but ended my career carrying a S&W 4566TSW .45. It was presented to me upon my retirement. It is a treasured possession. It seems like the trend now for police agencies is the .45.
Friends of mine in local PD carry .45 ACP, Sigs I think.
Help your cardiac health, Ish! Try to keep her in law school!!! LOL!!!
The youngest is the only female in her assigned area that is qualified to carry an M4 on duty. She begins training today to be a back up to her groups "SWAT" team.

Our new county sheriff carries a 380 Taurus pocket pistol, but he does have a matched pair of pearl handled colts in the pickup. His under sheriff, who I went to school with, doesn't carry a pistol, but does have a 870 in the pickup.
My friends on the force in Snowmass CO carry .40 cal Glocks or S&W. The sargeant carries a .45 but I don't know the make.
I haven't had any contact with law enforcement in MN (yea) so I don't know what they carry.
I was at a wine festival in town a couple weeks ago, and I saw a couple cops in the crowd. I noticed they were carrying Sigs but I didn't stop to ask for details. My uncle is a game warden and he is issued a Sig 226 in 357sig.
Most of them in my county carry the 357 sig.
Montana, tell your friend to check out the undersherrif from Chinook who didn't carry his weapon with him. He's in the cemetery!
I was shocked last year when I was in Montana and ran into a Sheriff in a resturant(sp) and introduced myself and we started talking and he wasn't wearing a gun while in uniform and I mentioned it to him. He told me his gun was in the truck. I thought then about the words of my boss " the first rule of a gunfight, bring a gun ".
Bubba: I have friends whose son is on the Memphis SWAT, they also experience "cardiac moments" from a daily duties.
Sarge01: Actually it is not unusual for western lawmen of the last 20 to 80 years ago not to "pack heat". I think this came about when many other people did not go armed and if they screwed up the sheriff just beat the hell out of them. Of course that is not politically correct nowadays. I see almost every law enforcement officer armed now in addition to just about everyone else. This sure seems to keep crime at a low rate in Wyoming.
I saw the Sheriff every day for about 3 days after I talked to him and he was carrying his handgun every day after I talked to him. Maybe a hint from me or a question from me made him think. Use to be when I started to work a bu## whooping would work but now all of the cruds are packing heat too.
The sheriff has said that if he ever really needed a gun all he had to do was grab one out of someone else's vehicle. Besides with our anemic crime rate and the fact that he knows everyone he feels plenty safe.
With the law enforcement atmosphere of today if you have to wait to grab a gun out of a vehicle you are going to be dead. It is getting so bad you can't even trust the people you think that you know. I'm glad that I am retired, I would hate to be working in today's culture.
Happen to have many connections in the police dept. and most carry the Glock 22,27 .40 pistols however I know of one dept. that carries .380's. Atlanta police carries S&W M&P I believe in .40.
