Q:
My son and I have been talking about a chronograph, something basic with minimal bells and whistles, just something to see what our reloads are really doing. What do you have and/or recommend as far as features and/or brand name? Thanks.

Double naught,
The basic "Chrony" is a bout as good as it comes for a basic set up.
Chrony F1 is what I have. Compares accurately to the high dollar one at the range.
Whichever one you buy, spring for the remote readout.
I have used various models of Oehler ever since they came on the market and have been very happy with them. They always have given precise accurate data. They do take longer to set up and are bulky, along with being a little expensive. Have many times used mine next to other shooters using other brands of chronos and always been happy I own what I have
Mine is a modle 35 Oehler and I agree with Happy. The Chrony is a good little machine too but Oehler makes the machines the military uses, 'nough said for me.
My chronograph is an Oehler and was purchased used in 1988. It seems consistent and is has proven itself dependable. My brother has one called a chronotach and he likes it.
I use the Chrony F1 with remote read out. I would highly recommend it. I have used it for years and it does a great job. It sells for around $100-$120. The remote is handy for resetting and reading values at the bench. It is also less expensive for a replacement if you shoot the thing (which CAN happen).
Check out Midsouth. I think I saw one that was reasonable. You will notice the user name has changed. Thought it may be a good idea.
007,
Check out Natchez also, I have been finding some very good buys from them also. I have found that all the three, Midsouth, Midway, and Natchez are pretty close except each one will have a better deal on some items. I have found the scope prices in Natchex to be better than the other two.
Did you ever purchase the chronograph ? I would be curious to know how close your reloads were to what you thought. Check out the new Icon I called her up Tue morning and killed her. She thought she was going to get a turkey dinner and got a .22 Hornet sandwich instead. Still waiting on the turkey.
i have the bottom of the line.chrony..no printer or anything..think it was like..89 bucks.works fine for me
