You could shoot 22 short single shot but it would be miserable and time consuming to load. Stick to what your gun is designed for the 22 L.R. and you'll be happier in the long run.
The 10/22 was designed for long rifle only. Anything else is trouble.
If you want to shoot: CBcaps,22shorts,snake shot,22Long,22Lr
You need a Pump Action or Bolt Action Rifle.
Anything eles out of your R10/22Lr is trouble!
If you do not know the answer. Read the side of the barrel for the type of .22 ammunition it will accommodate.
Let's go this direction.
Can you shoot a .22 short in a Ruger 10-22?
The .22 short does not create enough energy to operate the bolt on that particular semi-auto. There are semi-autos on the market that shoot ".22 Short" ammo only. If you just need to shoot an occasional "short" cartridge, it will not harm the firearm. Each round must be hand loaded and ejected.
