Q:
Heres a gripe I have. I was sighting in my rifle last weekend, the sand pits we use for it are the local ones for shooting. Whatever I bring in I take out. Targets, wood to hold them, shell casings, soda bottles etc. Why is it it looks like a war went on, Shotgun shell casings every where, busted skeet some whole, rifle and handgun shells scattered everywhere, targets riddled with holes. A desktop PC someone was shooting at, pieces of wood with nails crudely holding them together to hold up a target or soda bottles, soda bottles in pieces everywhere, and oh yeah best of all, there is a full size ford pickup that was abandoned there, rolled over and set on fire ridddled with bullets. You name it its there. Any wonder why we loose more and more land to private property signs every year. Does this happen around you or is it a special site for our area?

A few years ago our local public land shooting range was under fire and a local Boy Scout group cleaned it up. They took three 26 foot dumpsters of junk out of there. This past year it was closed down for good by the Forrest Service for the same thing. Sad and disapointing.
I hate to say it, but the shooting community has more than its fair share of slobs. Look at the bullet holes in the deer crossing signs. That makes me wince with shame. Sometimes I think 90% of the shooters give the rest of us a bad name.
Not to that extent but rules are broken at the range I use too. People think that because they pay for a range pass they are free to wreck it. This is not true...it gives them a responsibility to take care of it.
I HATE to see shot up TV's, computer screens and refrigerators anywhere. I can handle targets and clay pidgeons but the home appliances drive me up the wall!
There are litterbugs in every state you visit. Just because they shoot doesn't make them more or less a POS that disrespects the property of others.
I am surprised at the amount of brass around the benchrests a a private range I go to. This is recycleable at worst, reloadable at best.
Our public ranges on Game Commission land in PA are often closed, some for lead abatement.
I see this at the range here. Makes me sick. Pack it in,... Pack it out!! not just at the range either. Slobs.
Most of the junk that people shoot at didn't bring the trash themselves. I am not protecting the "plinkers", as I call them. Bozo's are everywhere and wont pay the fee to take their trash to the dump.
I will pick up other peoples brass and take it to reload if it some I need or put in a container at my skeet club.
I am always looking to Remington STS's :0
I give away rifle and pistol brass to my friends, but with prices going up I may but a press & dies.
My pet peeve too! You have the right approach of leaving shooting grounds at least as clean as when you arrived. I am seeing more of this all around lack of respect for our environment everywhere. I was following a car in the city the other day and the car ahead of me rolled down the window and chucked a McDonald's bag out the window... go figure! I guess parents are changing at a pretty rapid pace.
Strangw how so many cant wait till they get to a gas station or store to throw their trash away. Thr mountain road to my hunting area is littered with junk and trash, bags of cans, trash, tvs, fridges. Some people just dont care. I found a small (one truck load) dump at the end of one forest service road, had bags and bags of trash, old coffee makers , other large house hold items, childrens toys and stacks and stacks of leters and bills, all with the same address. I called the forest service and reported the dujmo and the name on the bills. It's been a year and the trash is still there. All takes me back to the crying Native American 70's comercial.
