I agree with Steve. Also .222. Any of those are easy to get shells. The exotic zippers (various cases necked down to .17 calibre) can be tough to get ammo and the barrels are notorious for short life.
Nothing I can add all or those calibers will work, if you have a good call and blind maybe a 12 ga! I shot one close one time in my yard and that was the only gun handy, made a mess out of him though!
The only thing I have ever shot a coyote with is a 270. One was at 350 yards...my best shot ever on any animal. The other was at about 150 yards.
A 270 may be a little much but it dosen't destry the hide as you may think. Ammo is more money than a 223 or a 243 but it's cheeper to buy slightly more expensive ammo than another gun!
There is now a bounty on them here in Saskatchewan.
I use a 25-06. 300 yards isn't much of a reach for that. I use 87g Sierras going about 3600 fps. Very flat shooting... especially nice if they are running and the wind is blowing. I find that the .22s slow down real fast at that range and make it harder to judge the lead and wind if they are running. I also use a .223 with 50g VMAX. Its OK if they are standing still or if I have a 20 round magazine. It will deck them at 300 yards although I haven't shot anything but antelope at that range with mine yet.
I would agree with pretty much any caliber above. The 17 cal seems alittle light but will do the job just fine and the 270 seems alittle heavy but agian would work great.I love the 3006 for everything, a 150gr bullet is close to a blistering 3100fps and a 270 with a 125gr is close to 3200fps.So thats alot of energy at 300 yrds. But the 243 is probably the best (middle of the road) choice. Its got good velocity and energy at that distance.Ammo is fairly cheap and you have a pretty good variety of bullets...Good Luck...GLASSMAN73

.223 or .22-250 are perfect. Your deer rifle will work fine too.

The .243 Win. sounds just right to me, esp. if wind is a factor.
not much to add here. i would agree with the .243 win it can be used for deer hunting too.
I would say .223 or .17 hmr
the .223 for all of the above reasons and also ammo is fairly cheap for it.
