Yea, my speer manual says 200s, what kind of powder you using?
You have a few choices that will serve you well, and the CCI-200 is one of them. I might also recommend the CCI BR-2, the Remington 9-1/2, RWS Large Rifle, and other Large Rifle primers. You needn't use a Magnum primer for the .308 Win unless you're using ball or spherical powders, or it's bitterly (sub-zero) cold out there. The .308 is a very versatile cartridge, and you'll enjoy load development with it.
with certain powders, my manual says to use 250's
That is simple do what your manual tells you to .
Any large rifle primer will make it go bang. If you are hunting with a bolt action, it won't make much difference which Large Rifle primer you use. I've shot a lot of CCI-200s and they are good. If you are shooting 1000 yard international bench competition, the BR primers are more consistent. They are also harder to dent. So if you are shooting an AR-10, the firing pin will be less likely to ignite the next round as the action slams shut (i.e. slam fire). However, if you are shooting competitively, you should try different primers with your load to determine which gives you the best accuracy. There is no one perfect primer, they just all act a little different.
DakotaMan is correct. CCI primers are hard, no doubt. I have my best luck with the Win LR primers. I forget the number. Nine and one half, I think? Know one guy who uses magnum primers in all his loads. He swears there is not enough difference between mag and non-mag primers to make any difference! Maybe so, but if my manual calls for a non-mag primer, that's what I'm going to use.
I have had good luck with CCI 200 and 250 primers. I have been using Winchester LRM for the big cases and Remington 9 1/2 and CCI 200 for .308 Win and .358 Win.
