Q:
I have an older model (1989-1992) Remington 30-06. I do not believe there is any way to reduce the trigger pull weight manually, and I do not have a lot of money to get a new trigger system installed. The pull weight has to be decreased though because it is way to strong to shoot accurately now. Any suggestions?

Talk to a gunsmith. I found directions online (Google) on how-to adjust the trigger on my older Savage.

If you google "Remington Model 700 trigger adjustment" the first website you'll find is "Quarterbore.com", and it gives you detailed instructions for adjusting your trigger pull, complete with pictures, Good luck.

The Rem. trigger, if it hasn,t been changed out, is adjustable. A gunsmith can make a safe and light weight adjustment for you. I don't know how handy you are and this is not a tough job but there are certainly a list of things that you can do wrong if you are not careful. I suggest a good gunsmith.

Take it to a gunsmith, by all means, if you can afford to. If not, there are several sources that give detailed instructions on how to do this. "Bolt Action Rifles" by Frank De Haas has step by step instructions. Get a trigger pull gauge to test after adjustment, and don't forget to slam the bolt smartly forward several times (with an empty chamber, of course), and set the weapon down on it's butt sharply after you adjust the trigger. If the firing pin goes forward, it is too light. When you achieve the right adjustment, torque the barreled action back into the stock to 35 inch-lbs.
Non of the above constitutes legal advice, and you must get your Mother's permission, wear sunscreen, fasten your seat-belt, etc.,etc.
Good luck,

HOLD ON DAR SHOOTER!

Did I read what you said right?

It got harder to pull with age?

Sounds like you have something more wrong than just hard to pull, if anything it should of got easier!

I it was my rifle, without hesitation I would send it back to Remington. It's very good chance if there is a problem, they will fix it for nothing. I've known other shooters including myself got hassle free results out of them.

I have a 700 from about 1970 and the trigger pull went too light. I took it to a gunsmith and he adjusted it somehow (not like an adjustable trigger, though). I was still not satisfied so I bought a Canjar trigger for it. Works great. Don't know what happened to Canjar.

Treestand-
Good advice on the Timney trigger, but the factory will usually not adjust trigger pull, due to litigation issues.
