40 grain bullet standard velocity = 1080 fps
40 grain bullet high velocity = 1435 fps (CCI Velocitor)

40 grain bullet standard velocity = 1910 fps
50 grain bullet high velocity = 1650 fps

Although the case sizes are different, the bullet diameters are the same. There are convertible revolvers available with interchangeable cylinders that permit the shooter to switch between the two rounds using the same barrel. The Ruger Single Six is one example.
Good answers! If you are looking for something to reach a little futher out at higher velocities try the new .17. It will kill anything a 22 will at longer range.
