Assuming both guns are the same weight, what rifle caliber would produce a similar amount of recoil as a 3.5 inch 10 gauge pump gun?

both are approximatley 63 ft lbs.

Depends on the size of shot that is in it.
I read somewhere ( I want to say in turkey & turkey hunting) that a average weight 12g. with a 3.5" #5 is 66 ft lbs. Kinda ridiculous considering you are shooting at a 20+ lb bird.

A 12 gauge shooting 3.5 turkey mags is about like a .458 Win in ft/lbs, but it's very likely that you will think the .458 is much worse.
