Q:
Well, she's officially done for the year and I gave my 11/87 SP the annual cleaning. Top gas piston was on upside down, probably causing the chip to break out the bottom ring but the O ring was still OK. In the receiver, there was the normal amount of crud, but interestingly enough, a fair amount of flora and fauna also inhabited the inside of the receiver (seeds, duck mite carcasses, etc) and except for a broken extractor (replaced in 5 minutes) this old shotgun performed without a single malfunction throughout the dove, teal and waterfowl season. There were accuracy issues on a couple of occassions, but I think that was due to a loose nut behind the stock. It will be interesting to see if the Browning Maxus can follow suit given this kind of neglect. Don't forget to take your choke tubes out and clean them so we don't have to address any questions about how to get a seized choke tube out come September. Getting ready for spring turkeys, let 'er come!!

I haven't taken my choke tubes out once in the last forty years and my shotguns have never had a problem. Well, okay, none of my shotguns have choke tubes so I guess that might explain it.

Boy, I'd sure like to shoot a turkey. Man, would I like to shoot a turkey. I'd do anything to shoot a turkey. If I could just shoot a turkey, I could go to heaven at peace and with s smile on my face. Doesn't McDonald's have some kind of funding program to help poor old hunters make their wish come true? This is a bona fide cry for help here.

OH,
You need to come to see me. About 135 miles from me there are about 500,000 turkeys or maybe more. They call the place Washington D.C. They shoot them every night. You can even hunt them out of a motor vehicle or at least that is the way the locals hunt them.

If I come dressed in my US Park Service uniform I won't need to buy a decoy either.

Sarge, we have our fair share of them in Montgomery, stangely enough, they are already dressed for Thanksgiving in suits and ties.
Honker, the old Doc gave me the longface yesterday and said my left knee needs to go under the knife, soon. After this morning, I believe it.
The hunting Gods are not being good to me this year and it looks like turkey hunting may not be in the offering this spring, first one I'll have missed in over 40 years. Right now, I can't go at the pace I'm used to and chasing after gobblers in the hills may be not conducive to my rehab. We will see how it is in April, maybe we can find one convenient that we can gang up on.
