Unless Mossberg has improved since I made the comparison a look through both bores should pick the Remington.

870 only if it's a Wingmaster. Otherwise 500 or 590. Especially for tactical/home defense. And besides, we all know the Ithaca 37 is the best pump on the market, right?

I have had both and I use the 870. The Remington 870 has more accesseries, more enterchangable barrels and stocks. It can be used from shooting rabbits to shooting skeet, deer or turkeys. The Remington 870 model is just a better shooting shotgun all around. I shoot The Remington 870 Express Magnum.

Deerhound, so will a mossberg, or Ithaca, or browning, or benelli. It all comes down to personal preference on how the gun balances, and where all the controls are. Personally I don't like the 870, it just feels cheap, not sure why, I'm sure someone will hate me for that, and tell me about the quality of it. But nonetheless it just doesn't quite feel right to me.

Gautry, the same can be said for the 500. But like
I said, personal preference is the deciding factor.

Yes, the same military that gave up the M-1911 .45 ACP for Beretta 92 9mm! What should that tell you? You'll figure it out one day!

Both are amazing guns. There is nothing that one can do that the other can't. I prefer the mossberg,(mine is actually 535. Its the same thing as a 500 except it can take 3 1/2 inch shells) because I like the big tang safety. My dad uses an 870 wing master and loves it though. Both are great, you can't really go wrong with either of them.

If it's an 870 Wingmaster it's an easy choice. The Express models are junl if you ask me. Terrible finish, ugly wood. I would take a new Mossberg over a new Express.

Really, I say neither. The 500 and the Express are pretty much bottom of the barrel when it comes to pump shotguns. Ithaca, Browning, Benelli, Weatherby, Winchester, even Stoeger all make better pumps.
