Both mossberg 500 and remington 870 are both great shotguns (i have both) but i like the mossberg for a slug gun because if you get the combo (both normal barrel and slug barrel) the slug barrel comes with a cantilever rail to mound a scope. (the one i have also came with a raised cheek piece and the slug barrel was ported.) all that might cost you a couple bucks more than the 870.

I like my Mossberg 835, and it comes at a reasonable price.

Mossberg 500, hands down, unless you can live with a single shot, in which case the Harrington and Richardson Topper line sells for about half the price.

i have the Remington 870 express with interchangeable barrels slug and bird shot. I love it it was my first gun and i ve used it for deer hunting , turkey hunting also for ducks grouse shot in a clay league this last spring i love it. Remington has made 1000000 of them if that tells you anything... They run about 350$ with both barrels or 250$ with just 1 last i checked.

Mossberg 500 or an 870. Both can come with multiple barrells and work well.

Remington 870 Express shoots just as well as any other gun I've had and is only around $250

you can't go wrong with Remington's 870. Easy cleaning just a great shotgun for all hunting.
