I'm tired of elk bullets and caliber discussions. It's time to sit in the AC and watch the Duke.
What's your favorite John Wayne flick?
Mine is his last, "The Shootist."
all of them! But Rio Bravo is a must see. Stumpy: "What would you do if I wasn't here to throw them (dynamite sticks) for you?"
Duke: "I'd throw 'em myself!"
I always liked The Cowboys even though Bruce Dern did catch some flack. For shooting the Duke in the back. Can you name the other 9 movies that Mr. Wayne met his end both on and off screen?

Hard to choose here, other than The Shootist and The Cowboys I like most all of his westerns. It would have to be somewhere between El Dorado, McClintock, True Grit, and Rio Bravo.
I had already blurted out loud "The Shootist" before I finished reading your post to see that on that we agree. A great movie and a great summation to a great career. Very few of his movies I didn't like.
Is it just me or, with the exception of the remake of True Grit, nobody makes great westerns anymore? 3:10 to Yuma was the last one that even came close. Hollywood, are you listening? Doubt it....
True Grit ("Fill your hand you SOB"), Followed by El Dorado, Rio Bravo and Big Jake, She wore a Yellow Ribbon ("never apologize mister, its a sign of weakness") Fort Apache; Sons of Kate Elder, Green Berets.
I am misquoting the train robbers but I can't find the exact quote, if anyone knows where I can find it, I would appreciate it: "You will find your self, standing your ground when you should be running, speaking up when you should be silent, and in general picking yourself up one more time then they knock you down. Its called being a man"
007; Check out Free Range and Broken Trail. Just a grew years old but great westerns.

The Shootist and True Grit. Green Berets was the bottom end.
Sands of Iwo Jima and True Grit.
My favorite is Rooster Cogburn.
McClintock. I'm not going to hit you. No I'm not going to hit you, the hell I'm not going to hit you. "Bam"

Big Jake and The Quiet Man are my favorites. His comedies like Donavan's reef never get old either.
