What do you guys do to help get rid of the rash that is associated with poison ivy I've tried a quite a few things and had varying degrees of effectiveness

1) DONT ITCH. 2.) DONT ITCH 3.) Lots of Calamine Lotion. 4.) Go to your local pharmacy and see what they recommend. They make some solutions you mix with hot water and they work fairly well. 5.) DONT ITCH
Calamine Lotion is the old standard and will help under most rashes. If the rash is severe you need to get it checked by a physician who can prescribe something stronger to treat with.
I usually pour some bleach on the affected area while in the shower and scrub like hell. Seems to dry out the poisoned area, relieving the itch and healing faster. I know it's not conventional but it works.
Lye soap. If you don't have a grandmother or somebody to make it homemade, order some online. I ordered a bunch of bars to have on hand for when I get poison ivy, but now I use it as my regular bath soap and even wash my face with it.
My uncle is a game warden and he says he uses a Dawn dish detergent in a cold shower. The Dawn washes away the oil and the cold water keeps your pores from opening. This is a preventative method.
When I get it, I pop the blisters. I don't know if it actually does anything other than have a psychological effect on me because I'm actually doing something to it lol.
I still have scars on my forearm where I got it real bad one time. It never itched but it hurt if it got touched.
I agree about the cold water. I've always been told if you've been exposed to poison ivy you should shower in cold water and wash your clothes in cold water. Apparently hot water spread the oil around too much?
I've been allergic to poison ivy all my life. I agree with all the tips on here. Dawn works great for prevention and further irritation. Also, there's a product out there called Tecnu. It really helps with the healing process and helps the itching/burning sensation.
Go to your local doc in the box and let him/her give you am injection of decadron LA; it's a corticosteroid that will relieve the inflamation and the subsequent draining from the pustules.
Only 3 suggestions:
1. Learn to identify the plant and stay out of it.
2. Move to the western side of the Cascade Range where it does not grow.
3. If solutions 1 & 2 are unsuccessful, get Domeboro powders at the local pharmacy and apply as a wet dressing to affected areas.
My line of work makes it nearly unavoidable I can spot it from a long ways off but it grows all over in the ditches and when we have a dig I try to stay away from the banks I usually don't get it bad from the plant itself but I contact roots alot burying cable because we always have to dig stuff up I was in the hospital for it once already this year and demanded the shot they told me they never heard of one and put me on the same medoral dose pack they used last year when I was covered in it. I've also been prescribed predisone which is also a steroid but every time I go to the doctor I have to notify half of Michels it seems and I get drug tested and wrote up for a reportable injury. What a crock.
If you border clinically insane you can scratch it til it bleeds in the shower and put a paste of dawn dishsoap and Morton's canning and pickling salt on it and see if you can remain silent. I got that one from another tip website that my mom found and recommended at a more desperate point of the summer. Not sure who left the tip but I'm sure they let out a cackle with a healthy ring to it.
Anyhow thanks guys there's a couple new ones on there shouldn't get it after I'm rid of it this year anymore but ill have it enough to try em all next summer

I used rhueligel when i was a kid and i saw it several years ago and i think it was made by johnson and johnson now...it really works!!
I can swim in poison ivy and never get the stuff. Had it so much as a kid I think I might be immune to it now.
