i have been told im crazy for wanting a bear that close but i really dont think it is i wanna be able to look him the eyes
Gman, I could be wrong, but I dont think you can carry both your shotgun and muzzleloader. Believe during the overlapping deer archery season/deer and bear muzzleloader season, you can carry both your bow and muzzleloader. Depending on what county you are hunting, you could then shoot a doe, buck or bear with your bow, or shoot a buck or bear with your muzzleloader if they are not close enough.
I dont really agree with the VDGIF on this, but they really want us hunters to thin out the bear numbers this year.
Like I previously stated, I could be wrong about the shotgun and muzzleloader, but you might want to check to make sure that is correct.
What county will you be hunting, I hunt Shenandoah County.
If you can see into his eyes, your within HIS Range too. Not as good place to be.
well MB915 i will be hunting in isle of wight county and moishe i understand 100% that is not a place to be but i am confident i can make the shot i guess that a risk i am willing to take
oh yeah i have read the rules and they say you can carry your muzzleloader during the general firearms season there is not anything in there thats say you can not carry both i know guys who carry both but if that is not legal PLEASE let me know i dont want to break any rules or regulations
you can use your muzzleloader any season that firearms are legal, I believe that pretty much settles it as a state issue [ i hunt in VA too]
locally sometimes rifles are not allowed but muzzleloaders are not excluded in that exception that I know of
getting a report of a bear raiding what he can at homes near where I often hunt
Getting bear to come is very hard, they do respond to preditor calls- sometimes. I scout areas far away from roads and atv trails looking for deep ravines and oak trees where the bear have climbed and tore down liimbs to get to the acorns. A bonus if you find a pile of bear scat, looks like a cow pattie but with lots of berry seeds.
fill a vegitable can half way with honey and anise. Anise can be found in the bakery section. rig some sort of stove, I used a sterno can in a bigger can with a grate over it. Light it IN A PLACE THAT WONT CATCH FIRE. the mixture will soon smoke like crazy maybe even catching on fire. thats ok. also soak a rag in anise oil. DO NOT get any on you. It sounds stupid but thats how I got my first bear on the ground with a bow and arrow. thats half the reason my nickname is two bear.
