Q:
Well, depressing news all around this week!
As a remedy, what is everyone planning on hunting this calendar year? Home state or traveling? First time hunting this area or species? Expectations?
Good luck.

This september I have my annual bow hunting trip to my home state of MD, but my november is going to be crazy. I am tagging along with my buddy Adam to Pike County, IL as his camera man for a 10 day hunt, I get home for 6 days then turn around and spend the rest of the month hunting MD's november rut.
From the video and pix that my buddy brought back from previous trips to IL, I expect to see some monsters!
Unknown to many, but MD has a great deer population and in the right areas, some huge bucks. Each year I get trail cam pix of 5-6 shooters. For me a MD shooter is a mature 3 1/2 yr old. These deer typically have a rack that would score in the 125-130" range. But for 20 years I always see a few bucks that would be in the 140"+ with the largest seen 170's.
Having hunted there my whole life I can afford to be picky. In any case, I hope to drop atleast 4-5 does.
Gosh man, talking about this is getting me pumped up! I needed this! Thanks for asking this question!
Everything in my state, and grouse and goose in Wisconsin, Ducks in Michigan.
Everything, Spring turkey right now, then over the summer prairie dogs and coyotes, then on to fall for big game, I put in for elk, mountain goat, big horn sheep, and moose, I hope to sraw at least one of them. (This is my 8th year applying for each)I will also be in pursuit of a buffalo this fall I am really excited for that one.
Missouri and Iowa turkey, Missouri and Iowa deer, Missouri and Iowa waterfowl... ya if its a legal game animal in Missouri or Iowa its in trouble.
turkey, waterfowl, pheasant, deer, crow, and maybe some coyote hunting for the 2013-14 season. all in MI.
First order of business for me is to win an elk tag in Montana. I have dreamed of elk hunting my whole life and this has been on my bucket list way too long. If I win a tag, I'll need help from the many knowledgeable members of this site. Also hope to win antelope tags in South Dakota and perhaps will pick up an archery deer there too. I'll do some serious walleye fishing too while I'm back there. I will hit the coyotes and foxes hard this coming winter too.
Also, getting my drivers license this spring will help my get around to hunting some new spots. As it was, my dad had to drive me to we're i wanted to hunt. I am also planning on using my license to find new water for bass this summer.
Spring turkey, black bear, archery deer, fall turkey, rifle deer, muzzleloader deer, and late season archery in that order. It will all be in MN. I usually manage to put something in the freezer but I have eaten my share of tag soup. The only expectation I try to take into the woods is to have a great time. Good hunting to all of you!
Spring turkey-coyotes with the hounds-black bear-deer w/ bow- ducks- partridge-deer w/ rifle- moose if I am lucky enough to draw another tag. In between the hunts I'll throw flies at Brookies and salmon. Probably bass fish a dozen times, take the tuna boat off-shore another dozen times, dip some smelts, spear some suckers, harvest some alewives, and hopefully become introduced to a few more outdoor activities!
