To be honest man you’re in a tight spot without driving. I live in PA to and driving is the only way I’ve heard of any of my hunting buds getting a chance. But if you want some advice scout. Learn everything you can about where they feed, sleep, and walk and you might find yourself looking at a trophy or a couple meals. Best of luck.
with Fox, hunting PA bears is all about driving them....from what ive found, scouting does very little to help your success everybody and their brothers are in the woods looking for places to hunt 1-2 days before the season and bears are getting pushed all over the place.
my advice for you, is to pick a nice spot and post all day long and hope one runs past you.
Look for the thickest stuff you can find. If you're hunting open woods you are in the wrong spot. I've shot 2 in PA. one in a swamp and the other was bugging out of a lural patch.
You've got to drive to have a chance. Find the nastiest tangles, places so bad you wouldn't make your enemies go,then send in your friends. Pa. allows 25 hunters to a drive for a reason.
Hunt the swamps. When you get an early snow before bear season walk around and look for bear tracks. Look for bear droppings. Look for claw marks on the trees marking their area. If there is a good nut crop hunt near the beech and oaks. Go in deep and get away from the stampede of hunters. Pennsylvania has a bear hunt every year. New Jersey had four bear hunts since 1970. You want a bear come to the Garden State.

find a steep side near some thick stuff. we've killed bears this way, sitting on opening morning. after that, still hunt.
chaslee...most guys are lucky to even see a bear during PA's season, you got 2! how big were they??
