Q:
Im hunting for bull elk in november in Idaho. What is the best call to use? I have heard that if you bugle right now the bulls just take their cows and leave. will this change next month?

Just stick with a "cow" call and you'll be O.K.
You could use a "bugle" as a locator call, but use SPARINGLY.
Good Luck and Good Hunting
The rut is just about over like BigO said I would use a cow call and also do alot of glassing.
thanks guys i have never really used calls before. I'm looking forward to trying it this year. whats your opinion of the "hoochie mama"
Primos' Hootchie Mama cow call is a very effective short range call. Some of the mouth blown calls have better range, but that is seldom a benefit.
Unless you hear a vocal bull, it is better to lay off the bugle in November. Bulls may be vocal anytime, but that far into the season, many are call shy on public lands hunted hard during archery and muzzleloader seasons.
Good luck.
I have used the "hoochie" with lots of success !
A buddy just got a nice 5x6 in Wyoming with a cow call. They heard two bulls bugling from a couple of miles away. They quickly trecked toward the sound, set up and called. The bull came to within 40 yards in dark timber. The bull posed for a long time as the buddy was concentrating so hard on looking toward the area where they heard the sound, that he didn't hear the bull approach behind him. My nephew doing the calling finally had to give him a shout and point. The bull seemed to look on with intrigue until the shot.
Forgot to mention, that bull came to the cow call during the first week of October.
Elk aren't bugling as much even during the rut now with wolves roaming around. Like everybody says cow calls are pretty much the only option that late in the season.
The last 3 bulls I've taken have all responded to cow calling. But then again I'm hunting them in mid-October here in Oregon. I use the diaphragm and I have 1 tube call I rely on. Look for a CD on elk calling and focus on learning the "estrus" call. Not all cows come into heat simultaneously. Use the call sparingly (don't start playing tunes) and you may be able to convince a bull of a late season tryst! Watch for bulls to respond quietly and take their time, often coming in behind you. Good luck on your hunt
The halcyon of the rut are long over in idaho in
nov. you best hit the glass and get ready to move.
i would use a cow call only if i was inside the herd bulls cows; and that use would be to cover my movements; not to attract him to me. if your hunting in the deep timber of idaho then i would just keep moving. sooner or later you should be running into the critters. good luck. idaho is a beautiful place to be in autumn.
P.S. Shoot every W and C you can while there.
the rut is off by the time you will arive in november but you could still use the cow call as a locator to catch the stray cow that might lead the herd in
