Q:
Is there anyone on here that could recommend a place to get guided (but not terribly expensive) elk hunts. Or maybe there is someone who is willing (patient enough?) to take some (2 or 3) mississippi boys elk hunting? This trip will be taken about 4 years from now....hopefully. If none of us fail a grade, there will be an 18 year old, a 19 year old, and a 22 year old. We all deer hunt, but want to do something special for our senior year (2 high school seniors and a college senior).

Check back with me in about 3 years if I'm still kicking and I can hook you up.

Archery elk hunts are cheaper then most rifle hunts. Colorado archery season runs together with muzzle loader season, at the same lower price. You may consider a black powder hunt or bow hunt. Good Luck!

WAM- I will try to remember that! Thanks

Gary- 2 of us have a bow. I have a recurve and started bow hunting this year... unsuccessfully. The college guy has a compound and started bow hunting this year. None of us have a black powder gun, but I have thought about getting one so I can lengthen my hunting season. Thanks y'all!

If I was you, I would start applying for points in a state that you would like to hunt. This would increase your odds of getting an elk tag.

If you go to the wildlife extravaganza in Jackson when they have it in August there are several guide services for elk that show up. Some are very reasonably priced, but it's still a quality hunt. Others the price is dependent on the size of the bull you shoot. My father in law went on one of the cheaper ones that was there and was very pleased and has gone back three times.

4 years is along ways away. Where does a high schooler get the money to pay for a trip like this? Your collage fund?

Ncarl-I actually have a very good job, considering I am only 14. I work with our churches pastor and get paid 8 dollars an hour. I am home schooled so I have my own schedule and it makes hunting and fishing really easy. I can get my school work done before lunch and since I live on the property I hunt, I can go hunting or fishing and do it all afternoon.
