I have a moose antler that was given to me by a friend. it has an old tag attached, it is a Wyoming tag from 1940. the antler isn't that big, and I was wondering about the value. not that I want to get rid of it, i would just like to know about the value

Keep it, you can buy old tags and hang them on the horns.
I see single moose antlers offered for sale on ebay at prices ranging from $20 to several hundreds. Check it out. You may see one exactly like yours. They make good coffee table ornaments.
If its an old hunting tag it could be worth some serious dough! hunting licenses and tags in those days were a rare purchase and they're almost impossible to find now. Think many hundreds of dollars...
Finding a buyer may take awhile though.
It's worth whatever some chump will pay haha.
