Q:
Im starting to realize the likelyhood that I will one day hunt cape buffalo in South Africa is getting pretty slim, so I have been seriously considering a more attainable goal... either a Wood Bison hunt in the Yukon or a muskox hunt in Nunavut or possibly Baffin Island ...Anyone know of any reputable outfitters?(websites)Thanks.

The Fred Webb family has had a great territory for musk ox. I will have to check around regarding the Wood Bison. Don't despair on the Cape Buffalo, there are tons of cancelations this year. If you are still employed this is the time to look for deals in Africa. Try Safari Outfitters in Cody for starters. Keep your eye peeled in the high end magazines. A plain vanilla cape buffalo hunt may not be much more expensive than a musk ox hunt these days

muskox hunts are running about $5500 a week I've seen from my shopping around, but honestly I am slowly leaning more towards the wood bison hunt.A few hunting friends of mine have told me bull muskox is very poor tablefare, and besides surviving the weather conditions not a very difficult animal to hunt. When threatened muskox bulls will instictively form a defensive ring around the cows and calves. You just need to find a group with a shooter bull in the mix. I would prefer to take a trophy animal that I would at least want to consume some of.
