Depends on situation:
Creeks and small ponds : Closed face
Rivers, Big ponds and lakes: Open face
closed reed are the ones I usually go for. I have had some open in the past found that i get some dirt in them and they end up gettin messed up on me. Since then I started goin for the closed reed.
personally, i like open reed calls. i like the feeling of having control of the sounds that i'm making. it also gives out a sound that is generally different every time. they take a little time to master but they work wonders, trust me!
my duck/goose calls are close reed,my coyote and deer calls are open reed.
