Q:
Wierdest hunting law in your state? For SoDak I would say it is that once you turn 18, you dont need to take the hunters safety course to do any kind of big game hunting with a rifle/shotgun. However, it is required by everyone who has never bow hunted to take the archers safety course. Does this make sense to anyone? I realize tree stand accidents account for a lot of injuries but gun safety seems more important.

The Alabama regulation I have the most problem with is the three antlered buck limit with one of those having at least 4 points on a side. However, you can take two antlerless deer a day from Oct 15 - Jan 31.
Come on now, how many hunters were taking that many bucks anyway??? I think the law is unnecessary and just adds more record keeping burden on hunters and adding work for law enforcement officers. Seems we have deer to spare...
Those bastards, making you count points like that.
The one in SC that makes the least sense to me is from Aug 15 to Jan 1 I have no limit on Bucks. However I must wait until Sept 15 to begin harvesting does for which I must buy doe tags for and then I can only get four of them. There are some either sex weekends in there as well, but I think I should be able to get more doe tags or drop the limit on the bucks I can shoot.
In WI, you cannot lean a loaded your gun up against your vehicle.
In Wyoming you can't pick up a road kill of any kind (such as a long tailed pheasant) or cut the horns off of a road killed buck without either acquiring a $2.00 transport stamp from the Game & Fish Dept. or immediately contacting the local game warden so he can sell you one. The fine is just over $100.00 and most people don't know this is even a violation when they do it.
In Maine the road kill is virtually the same as Wyoming's and seems to me a bit foolish. The worst Maine law though is "NO SUNDAY HUNTING". This particular one drives me crazy.

boof, just to clarify: in South Dakota, we had a rash of goofy hunters that went out and stuck lots of deer full of arrows. Out there, you can see the deer humping around with arrows sticking out of them and it is pretty gruesome(in the east they stay in the bushes so you have to be real close to see all the cripples). Therefore they decided to send them all to class before crippling the deer regardless of their age. If you can prove you have bow hunting experience, you don't have to take the class.
