I gotta ask just because it has never been an option for me... Do any of you that are allowed to bait for hunting still choose not to do it for fair chase reasons?

I see no problem with bait. (In my state you can't use it though.) I mean have you ever heard of a cornfield or an apple orchard? How a about acorns? That is natural bait and I think it is great! I see no problem with taking a bucket full of corn, soybeans, acorns, apples, persimmons, etc and dumping it in the woods near your treestand for deer to eat.

I unfortunitally can't bait deer in Indiana, but I feed them stuff in the off-season....

there is a difference between people planting a crop to make a living and dumping a bucket of fruit to draw a deer ten feet from a stand. what happened to fair chase.

I hunt pennsylvania and Newjersey. Pa you cant bait. NJ just passed the law that you could. I dont do it though. I feed the deer until a week bfor the opener. i hunt over a soybean field on oneside and a cornfield on the other. What do i need bait for!? I have 100 acres of it right underneath me. Stick with fair chase boys its the right thing to do.

Personally, I try to reserve from commentng on how others hunt. I enjoy the fair chase, the enjoyment of trying to outguess what the animal will do. It just seems to mske just that more enjoyable or a hunt for me.

Baiting is illegal where I hunt but I have no problem with others doing it where it is legal.

It is also illegal to bait in NY, but I don't think it's "bad" to bait were it's legal.

We can't bait where I hunt and I wouldn't bait if we could. I'm all for food plots to improve the health of the heard but I don't want to sit in a stand and watch 50-100 deer walk into a field and pick out the biggest one. I like the anticipation. I want to be surprised and excited. I think if I saw fields full of deer everytime I went hunting I'd lose the rush I get now. I like the hunt more than the kill!

I don't bait because it's not necessary here, I have permissions on farmland, there is always plenty of corn, wheat and milo around to draw them in BUT after opening day, the SMART deer head for the deep woods so it does not matter.

We can't bait for deer in Maine and I agree with this rule. We can bait bear and I agree with this as well. Bear habitats are the thickest evergreen forests that you can find and are difficult to even see without bait or dogs.

i heard Uncle Ted say stuff about baiting on the spirit of the wild the other day. he said why cant i hunt over bait when God put the bait there (apple tree), why cant i pick up the apples and set em somewhere eles. he said baitin laws are rediculous and he will bait anyway if its illegal. I think the Nuge is right but i wouldnt advise breakin the law.

Its like raising cattle. You dump feed to them twice a day and they come up to the bunk. After a while the deer will do the same. Its not hunting its shooting/killing.
