if you put the time in you can train any dog to be a bird dog it may not come as easy to the dog as it would to the traditional breeds of bird dogs but you can train any dog to do anything

You can. At least you can train your pug to go out with you, work birds to the best of his/her ability, and have a fantastic time. since I assume your dog has pretty short legs, you won'thave to worry about him running way offf and flushing birds out of range, which is a plus. He might be gunshy, and you can work on that with a .22 and bacon treats every time you shoot it, to get him started, and not ruin him by trying to shoot a shotgun too close to him, too soon.

If you can get him past the gunshy, or if he does not have it, he'll do something good, and at the very worst, you'll get more birds than you ever would alone. And have whole lot more fun.

I have an old pit/ Am staff, a wonderful old battle axe of a dog. And she's a great bird hunting companion-and oddly enough, this season, she has done the best she's ever done.
when she was younger, she would leave birdhunting to attack porcupines, which meannt the day of hunting was through (vet time and $$$), which was a real drag. But you shouldn't have that problem with the pug. Good luck. Your dog is going to have a great time.

You can make just about anything a hunting dog. It is recomended to use the well known ones because they have the best instincts.

As the owner of both a lab mix and a couple of pugs, I have to ask, even if you do succeed in getting your pug to be a gundog - is it really worth your dignity?

I guess you can get a dog to do pretty much anything but might be a little difficult for a pug to drag back a nice big fat goose.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
