I would go with a Brittany spaniel myself no problems with the birds, the squirrel I think he could learn with a little help.
Good luck with your search.

Feist would be my pick for squirrels, buddy of mine had a lab that would get doves when you shot them, he would also go around and get them out of other peoples piles if you were'nt careful

For the birds I'd go with a spanieal or lab and beagles are good for squirel.

Typical Labrador Retriever! LOL I have worked hard to keep my Lab from being a bird thief, but it is just in the genes I guess. Let another dog get close to his bird stack and there is trouble ahead for sure. Somebody is getting growled at or worse, period.

I am shocked no one has said a GSP. German Shorthaired Pointers are awsome versitile dogs. They point, retrieve, back and range. They just want to please. I think that they are the best all around dog that has ever been created. They retrieve like a lab, point like the britney, and run like a hound. Britney's are good but must be force broke to retrieve.

Do you want a pointer or flushing for the birds?

What is a squaral? Are they like naugas? Are they as hard to hit and cook as MOAs? My old friend Paul B. had a dog one time that he fed under a buffet so his front would stay low, and his back would grow, and when he was grown, he was always running down hill! Sounds like a perfect combination dog to me.

I would go with a springer spaniel. The only hunting dogs we ever had were springers and would never buy any other kind of dog.
