Gobblers have Longer beards, spurs and are usually bigger over all.
and gobblers can full strut when jakes cant and gobblers can gobble right and jakes cant and a gobbler has a full fan and jakes dont have a full fan the feathers in the middle of their fan is longer than the ones on each side
A jake can and will strut and gobble, pitiful as it may be. Tail feathers will be inch or so longer on top compared to the sides which are shorter, usually have about a 3 inch beard and pimples for spurs.
how can you tell the difference between a spike and a 200 class buck....same deal, toms are bigger, longer bears, you can tell by the gobble, jakes heads will sometimes be red while in spring a gobblers head will be white, almost like a sock bobbing through the woods
Here I have been going about it all wrong. I've been using my bino's and looking under the edge of the wing for something hanging that looked like outside gizards. See, you do learn something new everyday.
The center tail feathers on a jake will be longer the the rest of the tail feathers, Beard will usually be short like about 2 to 4 inches. The jake will be more the size of a hen 8 to 12 pounds.
GObbler's heads will be engorged with blood making hues like Red Blue and White vibrant as compared to a jake's. If they are standing next to each other, you'll know. The harder difference for me to tell is between a jake and a hen
gobblers are typicly bigger, and will strut
