I use either my 835 Mossberg, or my H&R Single Shot Turkey Model. Both have XXFull Primos Tight Wad chokes, and I shoot Remington shells with a #5 shot size.

In the fall, I prefer my H&R .22 Hornet! Does a wonderful job and doesn't tear up alot. Best shot so far was about 125 yds. Double beards of 9" and 5" inches, 23 pounds and 1" hooks!
Spring?
An 870 Rem with a superfull choke tube and 2.75" high velocity no 7.5's! Have yet to have one walk away!

I use a Mossberg 835 with a Carlson turkey choke (don't know the exact nomenclature for the choke right off hand) with 3.5 in., #6 Federal Heavyweights.

Treestand---I inadvertantly gave you a minus and didn't mean to. I'm strictly a shotgun man, but there have been times that if I had a rifle, I'd have likely used it. Sorry about the minus.

I use a mossberg 500 with an extended choke. 3 inch #5 shot shells. It holds tight patterns out to 60 yards, I wont shoot over 50 though, just to ensure a clean kill.

Franchi I-12 with a turkey choke. The choke looks terrible but it keeps the pattern tight.
22 Hornet (or the like) sounds like a good idea too. Hit's hard enough to kill it, but won't leave a baseball sized hole in the off side.

Weatherby SA08 with extra full choke if using shotgun.
CZ .22 Hornet with Nikon 3X9X40 Prostaff scope if using rifle. Rifles are legal in WV and last year I called up a coyote and I was glad I had my Hornet and was able to kill it. With my shotgun it would have been marginal.

A Mossberg 500 with a Indian Creek choke tube and Winchester extende range 3" #6 pellets, as well as a 2x red dot scope. Puts over 100 pellets in a 8" circle @ 40 yards. Shot a Tom at 40 yards last fall and it worked well!

Some day I want to upgrade to a shotgun which handles 3.5 " shells.
