You can buy nice ones for $150 or so as well...but making your own might save some money. If you have the resources and the time...making your own is cheaper and can be just as satisfying. I surfed the web looking for materials and spend only about $100 on all the materials. I think its easier doing it this way. You're able to add/subtract to it to make it suitable for exactly what you want.
