I'm sitting here a home, and I just watched a flock of geese fly over the field in front of my house. Any one else getting ready to hit the fields and when does your season start?
Goose season starts here September 1st. I have been asked to guide waterfowl hunters at a resort in Northern Manitoba for the month of October. If my dog is still doing fine I'll be there. Should easily break a hundred honkers this fall if I want to, providing I can eat them fast enough. I'm suppose to help with the cooking for the clients. Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll have some assistance consuming the birds. I may just have to take the sausage grinder along.
For most of Michigan the early season starts september 1st, with a bag limit of 5. I'm hoping to get permision at one farm somewhere in the thumb area. We'll see.
Like Josh, I'm in NY but in the western part of the state. Sept 1st is the big day. While I shoot at the best chances regardless, I do hope to bring home some young'ns, they roast up nice. Ontario, do you eat the livers & gizzards of your waterfowl? I eat the hearts and want to fry up other stuff, but I wonder if they're loaded with toxins. I hate to waste them. I'm not worried for myself so much, but if I eat it, my kids will want to as well.
The drought has caused some corn to get harvested early this year and my scouts have indicated some good flights coming into our fields presently. If they continue through 9/1, I'll be ready for them. Five geese is a load to pack out, but a chore I will gladly accept.
