i prefer to go early in the morning and a hit a few fence lines and fields, then about 11 or so we drive around to give ourselves and the dogs a break and normally see a bird or two in the ditches or fencelines on either sides of the road. the reason for this is it has warmed up by now and they have fed so they are getting to the road to pick up gravel to help grind up the morning food. good luck and drive slow looking for the white ring and the red eye patch

wanted to add that i hunt on public land in ohio where bird numbers are low normally we have about 10,000 acres to ourselves after the week of thanksgiving which is when our last release is. hunting is tough but driving around like this helps alot

Evening, but just a word about "road hunting" Don't know how you do it, or what you mean by the definition, but how some do it, is the most dangerous form of hunting...jumping out of a vehicle with some having guns already loaded. Shooting from the roadway, shooting onto private property. Getting out of a rig, properly loading up, and then hunting as you should is often not the way it is done. Once the vehicle stops the birds often flee making it necessary to hunt illegally to bag a bird, and very dangerous.

typically most states have laws where you cant start hunting pheasant till after 8, and theres a reason for this. if you drive to an area with pheasants you see flocks of them fly from the roosting area to where they feed. they dont want people waiting and pass shooting them as they fly to eat. get out early so you can watch where they fly to eat. then park your car, get out and walk out there.
