Q:
I have an old Ithaca Model 37 shotgun that I would like to be able to use for duck hunting, but I have been advised not to shoot steel shot through it. Is there any ammo available on the market that is safe to use that is at all comparable to lead shot in performance?

Thanks for the info, but who makes them? Is there a trade name like rifle ammo, such as Winchester Silvertip, Remington Bronze Point, etc.? What would I be asking a salesperson for specifically?

"Tungsten-Matrix shot as loaded by Kent is slightly heavier than bismuth and close to the same density as lead. Almost as soft as lead, it too can be used in vintage guns."

this is from the below which is a good article.

I disagree with some of the above, you should *not* use hevishot and some others of the non-toxic shot in a gun that can't use steel.

I have not had problem shoting steel shot out of my vintsge guns just keep it small in size and dont over do it on shot size I use 1oz load of #4s and #2s in one of my M12s with no efect on it if your gun has a Modified choke your better off another option not mentioned would be Hevishots Clasic Doubles load. Hope this helped you out.

I have used heavi shot in the past. Prices arent too bad. I had an old double 20 that I didnt want to shoot steel through. Its much cheaper than having a barrel replaced.
