Q:
I have never hunted out of (or even put up) ladder stands before and I bought two different used ladder stands over the winter. Other than the straps, is there anything else that I will need to put them up? I assume that I can find some instructions on-line and that most ladder stands are basically the same. Am I right?

I would definitely go online for the manuals to make sure that first, you have all the parts and second, it's put together properly. They can be ingenious little bits of engineering, which makes them sometimes less than obvious to assemble safely. I was surprised with my first ladder stand that it really helps to have a second person hold the base of the ladder in place when you go to raise it because they are so very top heavy. Above all else, after you get it up, still use a safety strap on yourself. The things that can happen are called accidents because we don't think they'll happen. Gravity kills.

Yes ladder stands are basically the same. Safer to have 2 people to put them up. One to hold the bottom while the other climbs up to secure it to the tree. Just make sure that you have them put together right.

Make sure there is a support stick that braces the middle of the ladder to the tree. That thing tends to gets lost in the shuffle.

The "straighter" the tree the better.
Good luck and good hunting.

Make sure it's straped on , I went into one and it started to fall over because they didn't put it on right.
