starting to climb a lot more, never hardl wear a harness but im gonna use one... i was looking at the gorilla ones but heard they smell, any good suggestions fairly cheap?
Please start wearing one. I fell while hanging a stand earlier this season. Thank God I had one on. Don't even worry about price, as your life is priceless. The hunter safety system works well.
The slightly more expensive ones are far better than the cheaper ones. I used the one that came with my climber for a few years and it was noisy and cumbersome to take off/put on. The leg straps would also loosen over time. Most of the vest style are comfortable and cost between $100-$150.
Hunter Safety System is the only way to go. I've got probably 1/2 dozen that are a pain in the keester to use b/c they are always a tangled up mess that I am not going to untangle in the dark, therefore, I wouldn't use them. HSS is simple, fast and very effective.
I've got a Gorilla harness that came with a stand. It's durable and functional and you can always hang it outside or spray it down with something for odor concerns. The only downside is that the metal buckles can be a bit noisy and I've been thinking about one of the new vest systems. DO NOT GO UP WITHOUT SOME SORT OF FALL PROTECTION!!! I've bowhunted for over 30 years and as regulars on here now, I started teaching hunter safety last year and what I heard in the classes really opened my eyes. I'm shopping now for a life line to add to my harness. It's just not worth the risk.
Every new tree stand comes with a safety harness...people put their extra harnesses up on eBay all the time...check there if you want to get one cheap.

I use a HSS Ultra Lite Xtreme. Light weight, easy on/off, and comfortable enough to wear all day. Fair priced too.
I use HSS also, and recomend it. Good solid brand/quailty.
I like my Loggy Bayou harness a lot.
i got a gorilla one for 100 dollars, seems pretty nice, light enough for me
