Q:
I hunt in Central Wisconsin and our bow season starts September 17th. How significant is it that I start hunting then besides the obvious ,hunting because I can, and should I be hunting frequently or lay off until right before the rut?

As far as I'm concerned, any day I can legally "hunt" I want to spend in the woods, "hunting".
You can't kill deer sitting in front of the "boob" tube, dreaming about "Ol' Mossyhorns" walking by in bow range!
Heck fuzzy fire! Get out there!
Seeing nothing to shoot gives you time to watch the birds and small animals and wonder at God's creations.

I would start hunting. It gives you plenty of time to fine tune your stand positions and let the deer get used to them. It also gives you an opportunity to see what's out there and you don't know when that nice buck might walk by.

hunting that early makes it very easy to pattern deer, they are still going with there summer routine.

Find the deer before the season. Hunt early and often, but know their pattern will change before long.
