Q:
Anybody know if deer are shedding their antlers yet in Minnesota or the upper Midwest in general? I ask because I was standing out in a area we have been clear cutting the other day when two antlerless deer that I assumed were does walked in but when they got closer I could hear they were grunting to each other. Is it possible that I saw two bucks there that had already shed or do does sometime grunt like bucks?

Deer have started shedding in Minnesota, have been for a few weeks now. At least in northern MN.

I got a buck on trail cam in Wisconsin in late december that had already dropped his antlers and I know some friends have been getting them on trail cam with half racks as well. About does grunting, I've encountered a few does while hunting that have come in grunting, so it's hard to say if the deer you saw were bucks or does or even fawn bucks.

My Dads friend shot a buck during muzzle loader with no antlers and I've found both sets from 3 bucks behind my house already. They must have been presured this year with the weather. I live in Belleville, down by New Glarus, 20 miles south of madison in the CWD zone and they have realy been presured this year for some reason more than others.
