It depends on what I'm hunting for.

I have modified open sights on my "brush guns" a marlin 30-30 and a winchester 44 mag.

I plan to use my dad's old Model 94 Winchester for the deer opener. But I had to add a rear peep sight.

I use a non-scoped Savage 99 hunting timber where most shot aer under a hundred yards. One has an aperture sight and the other one needs one!

as my user name suggests, I only hunt with open sights. I'm in South Central OK, and generally for deer, I use a marlin 30.30. Its all the gun I need, and a scope would limit its functionality. I've taken deer at 100+ yards, down to a few feet away. I've only missed once with this gun. Yes, I admitted it, I missed once.

My CZ bolt-action .22LR has iron sights with a shroud over the front post. Its an absolute tack driver and makes easy work of ground hogs at 100 yards.

I hunt with both. If in thickets iron sights work best. Distance could go either way

I have over under sights. In the brush up in NH you alot of the time only get a short shot. Most shots I have had have been within 5o yds. Tend to use iron sights then. Scope is touchy at close range

I'll take my M1A and you can meet me back on the 1000 yard line Pilgrim with your Ear Splitting, Shoulder Breaking, Sinus clearing, 300 Mag Match Rifle topped with any Extraterrestrial scope and I’ll show you what’s primitive!

Think Iron sights are primitive, you better rethink that idea!

All of my deer to date have been taken with a single bead shotgun or iron sights lever action. The stars have yet to align on the 3-9x40 I got with my bolt action. The lever action now has a red dot (1x) "scope" because I liked the sight picture. My in-line has open fiber optic sights.

I use both. Both have their place and use. If I'm hunting a thick spot I prefer open sights. On a large beanfield I'd have to prefer optics.

I personally prefer iron sights because I think a scope gives a hunter to much of an advantage.

If it is raining and I will be still hunting, I'll take the pre 64 30-30 with iron sights, I have killed more deer with this gun than any gun I own. Fast follow up shots and I dare a twig to get in my way.

i do sometimes i have a 30/30 lever action that has iron sights if i find a trail going thru thick cover and the only way to hunt it is from the ground at close range i will use it, it works great for thick cover and short range.i didnt really start using scopes til a couple of years ago i was one of these people that thought if it aint broke why fix it all i would use was iron sights but then i got to where my eye sight wasnt as good as it use to be and i bought a new rife and had a scope put on it afterwards i wondered what i was thinking not having one before i could see my target at dark alot better and i could shoot a dime at 200 yds easy its one of those things that gives you a little bit more advantage but i still like using my ole trusty iron sights every now and then thats why i havent put a scope on my 30/30 so i could have a least one gun with out a scope.

I use both, but my Winchester Model 94 in .30-30 is equipped with a receiver sight, and I prefer that sight arrangement. Admittedly, my lights are dimming, but those sights have served me well.

I hunt with iron sights when hunting dangerous animals (like Russian boars) in dense surroundings. Otherwise I use a scope.

I use irons on all kinds of guns for hunting as well as general shooting - slug guns, lever rifles, rimfires, muzzleloaders, even bolt actions.

My dad just started elk hunting with his open sighted 375. He use to hunt with his 300 win mag, but it takes too long to draw up on an elk. He switched to his lever action because he will be able to fling more lead at an elk in less time. It also helps his shooting if the elk is at close range.

I use a remington 687 in .300 Remington SAUM. This is a powerful rifle with great sights. I am an agressive guide and hunter and enjoy walking and shooting more than sitting in a stand all day. Under 300 yards, nothing is walking away. Long shots are risky, and desperate. Patience is the key. (So is luck)
