I shoot vanes....I'll probably catch hell for this but when I got started bow hunting the guy that helped me a lot shot vanes and he said that while vanes don't fly as good as feathers they are better than feathers if they get wet so I started shooting vanes and have always been pleased....

Vanes are better from compounds. Feathers work good on stick and recurve bows.

In general, vanes are much better then feathers.

Vanes. I have cut and fletched many a turkey wing just for a nostalgic experience but I use plastic vanes for hunting. The feathers wear out too fast while practicing and require too much attention. The feathers sure look nice though.

I agree with DakotaMan, feathers look nicer, but vanes have better all weather peformance.

Feathers are lighter, thicker, look better and have a more stabilizing effect but are more fragile. Vanes are quieter and more durable but less stabil. Ultimately you should use what works best for your needs. I use blazer vanes they work great with Rage 2 blade broadheads.

Feathers are more forgiving if damaged

Vanes if damaged will not stabilize the arrow. Great for wet weather.

I use both depending on weather conditions.

Fobs are interesting but I haven't put a fall away rest on my bow yet. It would be a good way to get some use out of old arrows with junky fletching on them. Some people are using them for hunting too. http://www.starrflight.com/
