Q:
I am buying a Compound Bow with a whisker biscuit. The bow shop recommends feathered arrows versus plastic vanes or blazers. Are the feathered arrows worth the extra money? They sell 6 Beman ICS Hunter arrows with field points for 57 + tax.

When I bought my bow with a whisker biscuit, the shop told me use blazers. I have been shooting them for quite a while now and have had no problems. I am shooting Gold Tip 3555 carbon arrows (around $8 a piece). Feathers don't do as well in wet weather.

I'm no expert but I bet the Whisker Biscuit will tear up feather fletching. I had great results with a WB and Blazer vanes. The only people I know who shoot feathers are recurve shooters. Also feathers require a lot of care in inclement weather.
Archery is one of those games where you have to experiment a lot and find what works for you but the feathers and WB doesn't sound like a good combo to me. Have fun whichever way you go!

Find you another bow shop, hopefully the new guys will know what they are talking about. A whisker biscuit will reak havoc on feathers. I am shooting blazers with a whisker biscuit and having excellent results.

Exactly as RES stated. If this shop recommended feathers it was for the cost value and not the correct setup. The biscuit will tear fletching up period and feathers will really tear up fast. There is an advantage to feathers under 30 yards from noise and weight. But after that the blazers are hands down winners.

Thanks for the advice. I will save money and have an excuse to visit Bass Pro.

At 20-35 yards (typical hunting range)...no. As others mentioned above, feathers probably won't hold up to a WB very well.
