tom donohue is right. You could pick up a nice used bow for under $600. I would go to a good archery shop for that unless you really know what you're looking at. They'll tell you what you want to know, and should have a range where you can shoot a few side by side for comparison.
The PSE rally is a bow that sounds like it would fit your needs quite well. I think they retail (set up) for less than $400.00 They are also a very adjustable platform. So if you get the 70lb model you can crank it up if you want or need more energy behind your arrows. I at least think you should take a look at it.
PSE STinger,Diamond Rezon and a host of other New Generation bows will be affordable in the range you are seeking. The only thing with a used bow is if you don't know you owned it before hand you have no idea as to the usage it seen. It's not like buying a recurve or longbow. Compound bows hold secrets to their past, like dryfires, bad limb pockets etc. Not rying to sway your thoughts but a $600 new bow is better then a $600 used bow of unknown charactor. And with todays techknowledge $600 will get you a lot of bow for the money
I wouldnt go used with a $600 budget unless you know who shot the bow and how it was treated. you can get som great bows brand new and set up for that much. heres my suggestion, if you use the code SAVEBIG you can get an extra 10% off.

I shoot a Mission X3. Outfitted with a sight, peep, whisker biscuit, and a few good arrows it came in at around $450.
Draw weight and length do not generally affect the price. Features and design do.
a used one.
