Q:
I actually have a couple of questions added into one:
First Question: Recently I was hunting a river bottom I normally hunt. It was early morning and I got in at great time, but when it was just after daylight, a road crew came in and started grating and re-black topping the road. I never saw a deer! Is that normal?
Also, part two of the question is; since the road crew came and went, I havent seen a deer since. That was a couple days ago. Should I be concerned the deer changed areas? Or should it get back to normal soon?

I dont know whether its normal, my stand is of a dirt road that has been labled a "seasonal Highway" which means there is no maintenance on that road until spring. so I have not had that problem. They probally changed areas but they should return, especially if the road crew has done this every 1-2 years the deer should be used to it and were just temporarily spooked.
Good luck, I hope they come back for you.
Machinery typically does not scare deer to bad. Deer just normally go about their normal routine when it leaves.
they will be back
Deer aren't too spooked by such things but may have backed away for a while if there was a lot of loud comotion. If so, they will soon be back. I used to farm and deer would stand and watch as noisy corn pickers and trucks went about their business. They seem to have a sixth sense about who means them harm and who doesn't.
Maybe they don't like fresh asphalt. The smell probably reminds them of the commotion, and they will forget it as the smell dies and no more disruption occurs.
They'll be back. It may not be on your schedule, but they will return. Anything that changes in an environment takes time for them to suss it out and decide if it is a threat or not.
I agree with DakotaMan, and that sixth sense has got to be for real. I can't count the deer I've had within 15-20 yards while turkey hunting. They had to know!! Now that I think about it I think turkeys might be the same way. I've seen more turkeys during deer season (no fall turkey season in SC) than turkey season. Maybe I'm just cursed!! Maybe I need to start hunting turkeys from treestands and walk around clucking for deer!!
They will be back dont worry give them a little time sometimes it might take a couple of days or it might take a week but i belieave you dont have to worry give
it time and be patient thats the name of the game good
luck and happy hunting!!
They will return but odds are not till after the strong asphalt smell has left the area.
