Q:
I have been hunting for a while. When I am in the stand a deer comes walking by, my heart starts pounding. And I mean pounding out of my chest. The rush is incredible. At times, I have a hard time calming down for the shot. Does this happen to anyone else? I love the feeling!!

Your adrenalin rush is known in hunting circles as "buck fever". It will probably diminish over time, but if you ever lose it, it will be time to hang up your musket (or bow).
I get that feeling everytime a deer comes by me whether its a doe or a buck.
GOT TO LOVE IT HUH !
Been chasing them all my life and it still makes my ears pound and my knees shake. Doe's and little ones dont do nearly as bad as a big'uns do but they still exite me. Guess that is what makes it so fun!
That's why i do it.
Thats why i hunt...i get excited if a little doe comes in, but its even worse when a buck comes in. It has settled down since i started hunting and became more experienced, but its still there.
It happens all the time to me when I elk hunt.
I get it every time buck or doe if I am deer hunting.
One way to control buck fever is getting used to watching and enjoying being able to set up on wildlife without the wildlife knowing your there. Take a camera and just shoot photos and soon the buck fever wont be as intense, but just as enjoyable!
That's one of the reason why we hunt is to get that incredible excitement!!!
I rarely get excited till AFTER a successful shot.
Unless its a real MONSTER then I cuss when I miss! {8^(
guys with bad hearts have paid the price I hear!
I slow down breathing to keep quiet and to hear better but am usually pretty mechanical when it comes to shooting.
yup it happens to me my dad says if you dont get buck fever when you see a deer you dont need to hunt
Buck fever is so good that it made me miss my shot!!
even if its a doe or young buck my heart stops pounding..nothing like it especially when their close up.i missed a 12pt at 8 yards the next weekend i killed his buddie and the next day my buddie shot and missed the 12pt..i missed him 3 other times since then....and i was shackin everytime
Yes. Something that's hard to duplicate at the range, too. You can run around or do pushups between shots, but other guys tend to give you a funny look.
yep, it just gives you a rush that's like nothing else. It's my drug
That is why I hunt... it is exciting. I stood with an arrow knocked on the ground within 5 feet of the biggest buck I have ever seen waiting for him to move so I had a shot. I could feel my heart beating in my ears so loud that I thought I was going to rupture an artery... I have learned to do what I have to do while very excited but if I stop being excited, I will probably stop hunting and do something even more exciting.
thats why i wake up at 3 in the morning every day, it is the greatest. and the rewards are great too, the best food in the world.
When I quit getting that feeling, I'll stay home. I used to get that same rush when the Redskins won a game but it's been so long, I don't really remember what it was like.
I think everyone whose ever hunted gets that feeling, thats one of the best things about it!
thats what she said!! just kidding. when ever you loose that feeling you need to hang up the gun or the bow and just quit hunting. there is no point if you dont get excited
